Cape Fear Ghost Crabs Bring Deep UNCW Roots and Local Pride to Brooks Field Debut Season

WILMINGTON, NC — The Cape Fear Ghost Crabs are more than just a new team—they are a true reflection of the Wilmington community, built by locals, led by Seahawks, and driven by a shared passion for baseball and youth development.

Owned by Wilmington residents Rob and Emily Good, the Ghost Crabs are proudly locally owned, managed, and coached. The Goods are active small business owners, long-time supporters of UNCW as Seahawk Club members, and deeply invested in the community as parents of four children actively involved in local sports and school programs.

Leading the front office is General Manager Tom Lamont, a UNCW alumnus whose commitment to the area extends far beyond baseball. Lamont is actively involved in numerous community-based organizations, with a focus on supporting youth and underserved populations throughout the region.

On the field, Head Coach Trent Mongero brings a championship pedigree and Seahawk legacy. A UNCW alumnus himself, Mongero was an award-winning shortstop and made history as the university’s first-ever CAA Division I Player of the Year. His leadership and connection to the program make this moment even more meaningful.

The opportunity for the Ghost Crabs to play at Brooks Field at UNCW represents something truly special—a full-circle moment where local leadership, alumni pride, and community passion all come together on one field. It’s a celebration of Wilmington, of UNCW, and of the next generation of players and fans.

As anticipation builds for the inaugural season, the Ghost Crabs are poised to deliver more than just baseball—they’re bringing energy, connection, and hometown pride to every game.Playing at Brooks Field = full-circle moment
