Announcing Our New Head Coach for 2027 Season

The Cape Fear Ghost Crabs are excited to announce the appointment of J D Everett as the team’s new Head Coach for the 2027 summer collegiate baseball season. After serving as the Ghost Crabs’ pitching coach during the 2026 season, he will step into the head coaching role, bringing an impressive playing background, collegiate coaching experience, and a strong commitment to player development.

A familiar face to the Wilmington baseball community, Everett brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Ghost Crabs organization. His baseball journey began at Wake Forest University before transferring to Gaston College, where he was a starting pitcher on the team that advanced to the 2023 JUCO World Series.

He later transferred to the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW), where he continued his collegiate career and was a member of the 2024 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championship team.

Currently serving as the Pitching Development Coordinator at UNCW, Everett plays an important role in developing the Seahawks’ pitching staff. His responsibilities include pitch design, pitching mechanics, individualized player development, and game planning. His experience working with pitchers at various competitive levels has given him a strong foundation in helping young athletes refine their skills and prepare for opportunities at the next level.

During the 2026 summer season, Everett made a significant contribution to the Cape Fear Ghost Crabs as the team’s pitching coach. His dedication, baseball knowledge, and ability to connect with players made him a natural choice to lead the team into its next chapter.

The Ghost Crabs also extend their sincere appreciation to Trent Mongero, who served as Head Coach during the 2026 season. Mongero will step back from day-to-day coaching responsibilities to spend more time with his family, but he will continue supporting the organization behind the scenes. The team is grateful for his leadership and looks forward to his continued involvement with the Ghost Crabs.

“We are thrilled to welcome J D Everett as our new Head Coach,” said General Manager Tom Lamont. “His familiarity with our organization, combined with his playing experience and commitment to developing young athletes, makes him an outstanding fit for the Ghost Crabs. We are excited about the energy, leadership, and passion he will bring to our team and the Wilmington community.”

As Head Coach, Everett will oversee all aspects of the Ghost Crabs’ on-field operations, with an emphasis on player development, teamwork, and creating a competitive and positive summer baseball experience.

With strong ties to UNCW and the Wilmington baseball community, Everett is well-positioned to continue building the Ghost Crabs’ reputation as a destination for talented collegiate players looking to develop their skills while competing at a high level.

The Cape Fear Ghost Crabs look forward to an exciting 2027 season under his leadership!
